the largest gorge in england with an impressive underground river system, a goat dodging drive will have you marveling at the 400 feet cliffs. for walks we park near the gates to black rock and from there you can do a circular route and stop off for coffee.

berrow beach
our favourite off the beaten track dog walking beach is at berrow. park in the carpark ta8 2jq, walk through the golf course and onto the beach. there’s a great photo opportunity next to the iconic burnham on sea lighthouse. then try fish and chips from star in burnham on sea!

frome is a charming and vibrant town, with a wealth of history, culture and natural beauty. historic buildings line the streets, and the wealth of independent shops hint at the creative community.

wookey hole
wild wookey is a three hour ‘adrenaline-fuelled, exhilarating adventure caving experience’ in the largest and most spectacular cave complex in the uk. guests are guided through secret caverns. abseiling, climbing, river crossing, zip lining….
for the less adventurous, caves nearer to ground can also be viewed on foot. equally awe-inspiring!

clifton village
a visit to the south west isn’t really complete without a trip to clifton, the georgian heart of bristol. take a walk over the world famous suspension bridge then stop for lunch at the iconic primrose café and watch the world go by.

crook peak
defining the sky-line at bluebell farm, this distinctive outcrop of craggy limestone epitomises the rugged beauty of the mendip hills. believed to have been a beacon site, during the time of the spanish armada, crook peak entices walkers today to scale its height. park in king’s wood car park.

brean down
at 97m high this natural pier can be seen clearly from bluebell farm. venture to the top of the down and take the exhilarating walk to discover the site of a roman temple and explore the victorian fort. the bristol channel is on one side, somerset levels on the other.

the somerset levels
a flat area of nature wetland stretching from the mendip hills to the quantocks, the somerset levels contain a rich biodiversity supporting a vast variety of plant and bird species to be discovered.
watching the starling murmuration spectacle here is a must! this area is excellent for both walking and cycling. walk from the door at bluebell farm.

westhay moor nature reserve
on the north side of the avalon marches on the somerset levels, westhay moor nature reserve boasts vast reed beds, lakes and pools, wet woodland and raised bogs, all teeming with wildlife.

one of our favourite destinations - watching shakespeare at the tobacco factory, immersing ourselves in the exciting buzz of the harbourside, strolling over the clifton suspension bridge or taking a voi scooter over to bedminster to check out the amazing street art, the city offers the perfect day out!

barrington court
this 16th century court house was painstakingly restored in the 1920s by colonel arthur lyle of the tate and lyle sugar company. now without furniture, the light, empty spaces provide a special atmosphere. the walled gardens are well worth exploring, with their fountains, colour curated beds, and productive kitchen garden.

the newt at bruton
a spectacular country estate. the centrepiece is the egg-shaped walled garden, planted with a collection of trained British apple trees of 267 varieties. cider making demonstrations herald the season. there’s a mushroom house, a history of gardening museum, a farm shop, treetop walk, and a thatched ice cream parlour.

montecute house
montecute house is to be found in the atmospheric village of montecute – the location for many a period drama! elizabethan renaissance in architecture and design, with towering walls of glass, glowing ham stone and picturesque gardens, this really is a national trust gem.

regency bath
bath is an awe inspiring georgian city! a world famous heritage site, visit royal crescent, take in the independent shops in circus place, check out the current exhibition at the fashion museum, see the abbey and roman baths, then head down to pulteney bridge and over the holburne museum. perfect!

tyntesfield national trust
our all time favourite national trust property. on the wedmore side of bristol, this georgian/victorian house was bought in 2002 and purchased with all of the contents in place. the garden and estate include flower-filled terraces, extensive woodland, champion trees and a kitchen garden that won’t fail to impress.

clevedon
clevedon pier was first opened in 1869 to receive paddle steamer passengers from devon and wales. today you can take boat trips aboard the paddle ship waverley which give a flavour of life gone by. clevedon is a beautiful, victorian town, and it’s well worth a wander.
